Throw a Matcha Set – A Wheel Throw Experience

(Price)
$120.00 SGD
( Description )

Matcha is a quiet practice. The whisk, the bowl, the slow folding of powder into hot water — small, attentive gestures that turn an ordinary morning into something deliberate. The vessels matter. Not for show, but because the bowl in your hands shapes the way you hold the moment.

In this workshop, you’ll throw your own three-piece matcha set on the electric pottery wheel: a whisking bowl, a tea cup, and a whisk holder — guided through the foundational movements of wheel throwing from start to finish. No prior experience needed. Over the course of two hours, you’ll work with clay as a material, learn how it responds to your hands, and shape each piece with personalised guidance from your instructor.

Three forms, made with the same hands, in the same session — and afterwards, the quiet pleasure of brewing your tea in something you made yourself.

Minimum age: 10 years old & suitable for beginners

What You’ll Make

By the end of the session, you’ll have thrown three pieces:

A whisking bowl — wide and rounded, sized to hold matcha as it’s whisked.

A tea cup — upright and comfortable in the hand, for drinking what you’ve prepared.

A whisk holder — narrow at the opening, designed to cradle a chasen between uses.

During the wheel work, you’ll have time to add detail and shape your vessels using a selection of shaping tools 3D printed in-house by Meso. Once the workshop ends, we wipe down, glaze, and kiln-fire your pieces in our studio. You’ll choose up to three studio glaze colours from our palette, which our team will apply on your behalf.

Finished sets are ready for collection approximately 8 – 12 weeks after your session.

Good to Know

Come in comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting clay on. Keep your nails trimmed — it makes a real difference when shaping on the wheel. Aprons are provided.

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your session begins. Latecomers may miss the opening demonstration, which we cannot repeat in order to keep the class going. On arrival, kindly remove your shoes on the first floor and change into our studio slippers before coming upstairs. No food or drinks are allowed in the studio, and we ask that you avoid bringing valuables.

If you need to reschedule, a $20 rescheduling fee per person applies. Pottery that remains uncollected beyond 4 weeks from day of notice in the whatsapp collection notice after completion will be discarded without any further notice, kindly refrain from enquiring if it is still around after due date.

Clay is an unpredictable material — cracks, warping, and imperfections can occur after the workshop during drying or firing, even after a piece has left the wheel in good shape. This is a natural part of working with clay, and something every potter learns to accept. We do not offer remakes or replacements for pieces that cracks after the class. What you take home is handmade — shaped by your hands, in a single session — and that’s what makes it yours.

Finished pieces left uncollected for more than 4 weeks after notification will be discarded. Collection only — delivery and shipping to be arranged by participants

Please review our Studio Policies before booking. By signing up for this workshop, you agree to uphold all studio policies here.

Continuing Your Practice

If the wheel stays with you after this session, we offer structured class packages — from Basics through to Advanced — where you can develop your throwing technique over multiple sessions with ongoing guidance. Participants who sign up for a class package on the day of their workshop receive complimentary firing credit for 2 pieces.
